Hurricane season has arrived. Here’s what to expect.

The beginning of a new summer storm season is an unsettling marker because we’re still reckoning with the full impact of the punishing 2017 hurricane season and the three Category 4 storms (Harvey, Irma, and Maria) that hit the US. Florida job cuts tick up in May, but down 15 percent year-to-date

Florida employers announced more job cuts in May than a year ago — 1,511 compared with 846 — but year-to-date layoffs have declined, according to Chicago-based outsourcing company Challenger, Gray & Christmas’ monthly report. [Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel]

Hunters with shotguns to go after pythons in Everglades National Park

The park announced Thursday that for the first time it will allow state-contracted python hunters to pursue the giant snakes within its boundaries. Florida's banking regulator abruptly resigns after clashes

Florida's top banking regulator is abruptly resigning after clashing with Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. Drew Breakspear sent his resignation letter on Thursday evening to Gov. Rick Scott and the three members of the state Cabinet. Breakspear has been the Office of Financial Regulation Commissioner for five years. His last day will be June 30. [Source: AP]

More cannabis distributors expected to enter Florida

The cannabis business seems to be booming, with new dispensaries opening in all corners of Florida. More distributors are expected to enter Florida’s cannabis sector in the next year. But there are challenges and restrictions around this emerging market. [Source: WUSF]

› Tech Data’s first-quarter net sales jump 22 percent to $8.5 billion
Stronger than anticipated demand for personal computers, servers and data storage helped drive a 22 percent increase in Tech Data’s net sales for the three months ending April 30, beating Wall Street expectations. Also read more at the Tampa Bay Times.
