› In St. Petersburg, homeless people get an apartment, support – and a fresh start
As the Supreme Court wrestles with whether people should be arresting for sleeping outside, and Florida considers setting up more tent cities, a new project in downtown St. Petersburg opened, offering 25 new apartments to homeless people to help them start over.

› Brevard Commission backs funding derelict vessel removal, rejects tourism/lagoon grants
The Brevard County Commission rejected an advisory board's recommendation to reinstate a grant program for projects that would benefit both the Indian River Lagoon and tourism. Instead, county commissioners unanimously voted in favor of a proposal from Commissioner John Tobia to designate up to $150,000 from tourist development tax revenue for the removal of so-called derelict vessels from local waterways. The county will save the rest of the money for future beach renourishment projects.

› Tampa insurance CEO signs deal to remain in post until at least 2029
HCI Group Inc. Chairman and CEO Paresh Patel has signed an agreement to remain with the Tampa insurance, IT and real estate firm for at least another five years. Patel was part of the HCI founding team in 2007 and has guided the company to over $1 billion in annual insuance premium, officials say. The new employee agreement, according to a public filings with the SEC, keeps Patel’s base salary at $950,000 a year.
