Cruising is back − and in a big way. So say industry reports from Reuters, Cruise Industry News and Auto club group AAA. After three years of bouncing back to pre-pandemic levels of sales, cruise companies are gearing up for what is expected to be a record-breaking year.
› At Disney World, Splash Mountain gets rebranded with Tiana character
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open at Magic Kingdom sometime this summer, Walt Disney World announced Tuesday morning. The company also revealed a first look at an animatronic for the title character. The ride is a replacement for and a remodeling of the 30-year-old ride Splash Mountain. Disney closed it in January 2023 after years of calls for change because it included several characters from Disney’s 1946 film “Song of the South,” which featured racist stereotypes.

A panoply of Arabic, Chinese, English, Spanish and other languages mingled at the RD International Market this week as people gathered at the store at 7534 Beach Blvd. to shop for supermarket goods not often found together in Duval County. Owned and operated by Stephen Yuan, the 52,600-square-foot store opened its doors to customers earlier this month following about $1 million in renovations, according to county records.

It’s nearly showtime for a new high-rise built for “essential workers,” bringing more affordable housing to a place Miami-Dade County needs it the most — the middle of the city. The tower is intended to house what real estate experts and economists call essential workers — teachers, police officers, local state prosecutors. Starting salaries for these workers often range between $45,000 and $60,000.
