› A small Florida chain files for bankruptcy and blames the pandemic
Icebox Cafe, a small Florida-based chain that operates both restaurants and vending machine businesses, declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this month, saying the pandemic-related closures led to a dependence upon “aggressive lenders” that ultimately led to its downfall.

› Nassau County accepting bids for special magistrate
In July, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners adopted an ordinance that authorizes replacing the county’s Code Enforcement Board with a special magistrate to improve the code enforcement process. The transition from the enforcement board to the special magistrate will be completed by April 1, 2024.

› Clevelander blasts Miami Beach mayor’s remarks. He responded with quips about Canada
A war of words between Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber and the owners of the Clevelander Hotel and Bar reached new heights this week, as Montreal-based Jesta Group accused Gelber of making “xenophobic” remarks and Gelber hit back with a scathing response that featured tongue-in-cheek jokes about Canadian culture.

› Tarpon Springs native will direct Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ for Disney+
The Tampa Bay area played a superhero-sized role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga, which spanned 11 years and 22 movies, culminating in “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019. Those with local ties like actors Dave Bautista and Angela Bassett starred on screen, comic book writers Jimmy Palmiotti, Pat Broderick and Bob Layton saw their characters come life, and an artist, set designer, makeup artist and greens coordinator worked behind the scenes on multiple films.
