› Five developments that will transform downtown Bradenton over the next five years
Manatee County will look a little different in a few years once several projects underway come to fruition. With eyes set on the redevelopment of downtowns in Bradenton and Palmetto along the Manatee River, local leaders are pushing forward on several projects poised to transform the urban core. The Manatee River waterfront in downtown Bradenton could soon be reshaped if an effort to sell Bradenton's city hall property continues to move forward.

› DeSantis wants Hillsborough to refund sales taxes. How would that work?
There is a rhetorical question being posed around Gov. Ron DeSantis’ plan for public refunds of the $570 million collected from Hillsborough County’s transportation sales tax that later was ruled unconstitutional. Who keeps receipts? It’s been stated in Leon County Circuit Court where, last month, a judge dismissed a class-action lawsuit from Robert Emerson of Apollo Beach that sought a refund of the taxes collected.

› Report: FIS could sell or spin off Worldpay business
Under pressure from activist shareholders, Fidelity National Information Services Inc. is considering ways to get rid of its underperforming merchant payments technology business, Reuters news service reported Feb. 10. The Jacksonville-based financial technology company known as FIS acquired most of that business from Worldpay Inc., but its results have been disappointing since the $48 billion acquisition in 2019.

The family names of cattle ranchers who settled in Osceola County in the 1800s are immortalized on some of the most used roads — Kempfer Road in St. Cloud, Chapman Road in Kissimmee and Partin Settlement Road among many others. But many of their descendants are at a crossroads: Some cattle ranching farmers today face huge challenges.
