› Judge blocks city ban on early-morning alcohol sales in South Beach during spring break
A ban on early-morning liquor sales in South Beach during spring break was struck down Tuesday by a judge after a prominent Ocean Drive hotel took the city of Miami Beach to court. As a result, alcohol will likely continue to flow until 5 a.m. at South Beach businesses between March 7 and March 21, a period during which City Hall had sought to turn off the spigot three hours early.
› Atlantic Beach to be serviced by 10 gigabit internet service
IQ Fiber will provide10 gigabit capable fiber-optic internet to Atlantic Beach beginning this spring. The company, based Downtown at 25 N. Market St. in the Groover-Stewart Building in Jacksonville, was chosen to initially provide the service throughout Atlantic Beach. The company will install in the right-of-way underground conduit and fiber-optic cables from its internet source directly to customers’ homes.
› Florida roof-damage claims are subject of Bradenton lawmaker's property insurance bill
Looking for answers as the state’s property-insurance problems mount, a Senate committee Monday approved a revised bill that includes targeting roof-damage claims that insurers blame for driving up costs. The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the measure (SB 1728), filed by Banking and Insurance Chairman Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton.
› Darryl Shaw retiring as BluePearl CEO to focus on Ybor City developments
Darryl Shaw is retiring as CEO of the Tampa veterinary company he co-founded in order to focus on his extensive Ybor City real estate development portfolio. In a statement, Shaw said that after more than 25 years in the veterinary business, he’ll retire in April to focus on building out a key piece of Tampa life and history.
