Florida ruled felons must pay to vote. Now, it doesn’t know how many can.

Nearly two years after Florida voters approved a landmark constitutional amendment allowing felons to vote, state officials don’t know how many have registered. They also don’t know how many felons on the voter rolls owe court fees, fines or restitution that would disqualify them from voting under a subsequent state law that limited the amendment’s scope. Brace yourself – Everyone’s moving to Florida

The New Yorkers are coming – The New Yorkers are coming. Yes, you heard that right. Approximately 950 people a day are moving to Florida, especially since the COVID outbreak. They’re coming from big cities like New York, Boston, LA and Chicago. The reasons are obvious – people want more space, they can now work remotely from home, and the threat of Covid still looms on the planetary horizon. [Source: Delray Newspaper]

Florida utility regulators deny request for power shutoff moratorium

State utility regulators unanimously opposed a proposal put forward by consumer advocates that would have imposed a 90-day moratorium on electricity disconnections. Commissioners said the move was currently unnecessary and said they were encouraged by utilities' current efforts to assist customers with payment plans. [Source: Tampa Bay Times]

Orlando clean-energy rank slips, but still best in Florida

As California burns and Florida braces for increasingly powerful hurricanes, the city of Orlando has slipped below its previous top-20 spot on a widely watched scoring of cities’ energy practices that thwart climate change. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy released its 2020 report Tuesday, with the number of graded cites expanded to 100 and the number of Florida cities expanded from Orlando, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Miami and Jacksonville to include Cape Coral and Lakeland. Florida grapefruit season to start early October with a good outlook

The Florida citrus season is set to start early October, and for IMG Citrus, the projections for this coming season are looking good. Sydney Allison, IMG Citrus Director of Sales, shares: “The harvest has started now, and we are on track to begin packing October 5th, so overall this season’s timing has been good and about a week ahead of last season for IMG.” [Source: Fresh Plaza]

The Delray Beach Public Library and CareerSource Palm Beach County have recently partnered to offer an array of in-person services for active job seekers. From resume preparation to navigating the online state job database, CareerSource staff members will be on hand at the Delray Beach Public Library, 100 W. Atlantic Ave., to provide assistance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

› Feld bringing back Monster Jam, Disney on Ice. And there will be fans in the stands
Feld Entertainment, which entertained 30 million people around the world with as many as 5,000 shows annually before the COVID-19 pandemic, is relaunching two of its shows. The company shut down all of its traveling shows in March and let go of 497 workers in Ellenton and 967 elsewhere because of the pandemic.

› Drive-in movies are coming to Tampa’s Armature Works
A new contactless drive-in movie experience is coming to Tampa. Rooftop Cinema Club will offer socially-distant distant movie screenings at Armature Works. The outdoor screenings start on Oct. 15 with a showing of Grease. Rooftop Cinema Club has opened drive-in movie venues in the UK, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego and Houston.

› Pandemic and tech boost sales for Tupperware
After two years of falling sales figures, Tupperware (NYSE: TUP) surprised many analysts when it posted the company’s best quarter for U.S. sales in 18 years during the second quarter. The Orlando-based company’s recent success can be attributed to at least a couple of factors: more Americans eating at home during the pandemic and an increased use of technology in sales.
