‘People are getting in planes’: The travel business is picking up

The nation’s largest airlines are preparing for a limited rebound next month as more Americans book vacations in places like Florida and the mountains and national parks in the West. That resurgence would offer some hope to the travel industry, which racked up billions of dollars in losses as tourists and businesspeople canceled trips in the last three months because of the coronavirus epidemic. Florida’s small municipalities await their cut from $1.275B in CARES Act money

As Congress debates a proposed $3 trillion COVID-19 package that would include billions of dollars for state and local governments, smaller municipalities in Florida are wondering when – or if – they’ll receive a share of previous federal assistance allocations. Congress approved $150 billion for state and local governments in March when it adopted the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. More from the Center Square.

Security firm seeks to hire 300 people in Tampa Bay region

Allied Universal, a global security and facilities services company headquartered in Conshohocken, Pa., seeks to hire at least 300 security professionals in the Tampa Bay region and will hold a series of drive-thru job fairs on June 9 and 23 and July 7 at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Lakeland. Central Florida sees surge in support of black-owned businesses

Protests continued in front of Orlando's City Hall for the 10th day, calling for an end to police brutality and a systemic change. In addition to protests, there is a push to support the black community by visiting black-owned businesses, both at protests and across social media. More from WESH.

Gulf Power donating $300,000 to help small businesses

A second round of grants from the Florida SBDC at UWF will be available for eligible businesses impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to an additional $300,000 contribution from Gulf Power through its economic development fund. According to a Gulf Power press release, the Northwest Florida Small Business COVID-19 Recovery Grant Program assists for-profit businesses in Northwest Florida with their immediate cash flow needs as a result of a demonstrated economic impact due to COVID-19. Florida artist puts talents on public display with murals around town

 Shy Morris has long dreamed of 24/7 art gallery with no admission price. In fact, it wouldn’t even have a front door. And after she was furloughed from her job at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, she kept her brushes handy and put the opening strokes on her ambition. “I’ve always wanted to paint murals all through New Smyrna and have something like a drive-through art exhibition,” says Shy, which is short for Shyriaka. “Because I think art in public spaces is definitely therapeutic and it’s needed. Not everybody feels comfortable going into traditional gallery settings. If it’s out in public, people can view it.
