› Florida Utility Turns to Drones for Powerline Maintenance
Florida Power & Light is using drones to streamline its maintenance and repair efforts, as they can provide a 360-degree view that is otherwise hard to get. "Drones offer a huge advantage is assessing this equipment above me," said Eric Schwartz, who showcased FPL's drone operation as part of National Drone Safety Awareness Week, an educational awareness campaign initiated by the FAA.

Orange County has received a $20 million federal grant to expand its autonomous shuttle system at Lake Nona, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao said Tuesday, part of a combined $62 million in transportation grants to three Florida cities.

› Miami-Dade has hundreds of illegal Airbnbs. Now county wants to water down rules
Miami-Dade County is considering loosening restrictions on short term rental companies even as hundreds of home hotels operate within its limits illegally. On Wednesday, the board of county commissioners will weigh amendments to a 2017 ordinance that will strip down the regulations for short term rentals in unincorporated Miami-Dade by letting companies off the hook for allowing unregistered rentals to persist on their sites.

Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc., a Gainesville-founded business that now operates in 22 offices across the country, announced Bobbi Westerby as its new president and CEO. Westerby joined the firm, which consults in the areas of natural resources, air quality, water resources and more, in 2018.
