Florida grand jury on school safety says ‘numerous’ districts not following post-Parkland laws

A statewide grand jury impaneled to investigate school safety found that just weeks before the 2019-2020 school year begins, “numerous” Florida school districts are not in compliance with the post-Parkland school security laws. That’s according to that grand jury’s first interim report, released by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s office. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Tropical disturbance moving toward Florida could become third named storm of 2019

Chances of a tropical disturbance in the Bahamas becoming the third named storm the 2019 hurricane season rose to 30 percent Monday morning, according to National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. update. The tropical wave could develop into a storm by as early as Wednesday, and if it does, it will be named Chantal. More from the Orlando Sentinel.

Amazon celebrates Opa-locka fulfillment center grand opening

Amazon recently celebrated the grand opening of its robotics fulfillment center in Opa-locka with local community leaders and elected officials. The more than 850,000-square-foot fulfillment center opened in September 2018 and employs more than 1,500 full-time, full-benefit associates who pick, pack and ship smaller customer items such as books, electronics, and toys. Florida's 2-day lobster mini season runs July 24-25

 Florida's two day sport lobster season starts this week. Participants must have a recreational saltwater fishing license and a spiny lobster permit to recreationally harvest unless they are exempt from recreational license requirements. The regular commercial and recreational lobster season starts Aug. 6 and runs through March 31, 2020.

Robots will soon invade St. Petersburg’s sewer pipes. Do not fear them.

floridaHere come the robots. Autonomous crawling robots may soon be crawling in sewage pipes under the streets to help fix the city’s wastewater woes. The robots would allow the city to scan for pipe problems three to four times faster than underground video cameras, allowing it to make repairs more quickly.
