Should 'Florida' movies be made outside Florida? It's costing the state millions of dollars

There is plenty of interest in independent films in Florida, but the big-budget Hollywood productions are shying away because of incentives offered by other states. More galling, for some, is that those states often are used for Florida settings. "The longer we go without a program while other states have them, the less conversations we're involved in," said John Lux, executive director of the film, television and digital-media industry trade association Film Florida. Report: Breakthrough on devastating citrus disease unlikely

An organization that advises the federal government on science and technical matters has dire news for Florida's citrus industry. In a report released Tuesday morning, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine says a single breakthrough discovery for managing citrus greening in the future is unlikely. The Miami Customs District, which stretches from Key West to Palm Beach, did more than $7 billion worth of business with China last year. Do you make enough money to afford a home in Florida? According to How Much, a cost information website, the annual salary needed to afford the average home in the state is $70,360.
