When Legislature faltered, Rick Scott took advantage

Legislators not only agreed to the governor's call to restore $215 million in public education funding and return $75 million to Visit Florida, they also gave Gov. Rick Scott something he didn't have before: an $85 million infrastructure and workforce development grant program. More from the Times/Herald and the AP.

Puerto Rico upholds statehood demand in contentious vote

Puerto Rico's governor is vowing to make the U.S. territory the 51st state after statehood won in a non-binding referendum hit by a boycott and low turnout that raised questions about the vote's legitimacy. [Source: Miami Herald]

Gov. Scott declares June 12 Pulse Remembrance Day in Florida

Gov. Scott directed flags to be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Monday, and asked that all Floridians pause for a moment of silence at 9 a.m. to honor the victims of the attack. More from the Palm Beach Post, the AP, and see the official declaration here.

Florida orange crop estimate increases slightly in June

Federal agricultural officials said Friday that the June forecast showed the state's orange crop growing by 500,000 boxes to 68.5 million boxes for the 2016-2017 growing season. The grapefruit crop forecast remained unchanged from the previous month at 7.8 million boxes. See the forecast from the USDA, here. Also read more at the AP.
