Florida politicians react to Congress approving $1.1 billion for Zika

The U.S. Congress approved a stop-gap funding bill last night to keep the government operating, and the funding included $1.1 billion to battle the Zika virus. Both Florida senators voted for the funding. Some reaction:

Gov. Rick Scott (via Twitter): "Glad Congress finally passed Zika (virus) funding. Hope @potus signs fast and sends resources to Florida."

Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.: “The emergency spending approved today will help increase local mosquito-control efforts to contain the spread of the virus and allow federal researchers to continue their search for a vaccine."

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla: “I’m glad these critical resources are now moving forward so we can help the thousands of Americans suffering from this virus, step up our mosquito eradication efforts, and develop a vaccine to eradicate Zika for good.”

More reaction at WPBF and at the Palm Beach Post. Also see this Reuters story about Congress passing funding legislation. Earlier Zika coverage in Florida is here.
