Finding top tech talent still a challenge

The market for tech talent is white hot nationally and locally, thanks to a recovering economy and growing entrepreneurial activity. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. unemployment rate among software developers and engineers in the United States was just 2.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014, compared with an overall rate of 5.7 percent. Florida legislature targets telemedicine

This Florida legislative session, physicians and hospitals in the state are keeping a close eye on two telemedicine bills. Florida statutes don’t include a provision that deals with telemedicine. Nevertheless, for some time private practice physicians and hospitals in this state have been administering telemedicine. [Source: Miami Today]


Small-business jobs on the rebound

For small businesses in South Florida, jobs are almost back to where they were before the recession. The region hasn't recovered all of its jobs, but job growth is surging, said Jim Diffley, chief regional economist for IHS, a global information company. [Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel]


Could a spinach gene save the orange industry?

New genetics are helping breed trees that don’t get the citrus greening disease or show symptoms at all. In “transgenic citrus,” trees have a gene added to confer resistance or tolerance to the disease. In fact, there is a gene from spinach that seems to help the tree grow fine with infection.
