» After first offering the job to Alberto Carvalho — who chose to become superintendent of Miami-Dade schools, instead — the Pinellas County school board named interim Superintendent Julie Janssen its next superintendent. Janssen, who will earn $200,000 a year, replaces Clayton Wilcox, who left in June for a job with Scholastic in New York.

» Bob LaSala is Pinellas County’s new county administrator, replacing Steve Spratt, who resigned in 2007 amid controversy over a land deal involving the county and Property Appraiser Jim Smith. LaSala, a veteran government official, was most recently city manager of Lancaster, Calif.

» Sam Militello has retired as COO of TBE Group, a Clearwater engineering company. Craig Snyder, previously CFO, has replaced Militello.

» Todd D. Smith has been named executive director of the Tampa Museum of Art, which expects to move to its new facility at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park by October 2009.
