Florida plans to accelerate critical road projects

Florida will be accelerating its road projects, which are poised to finish 10 to 20 years ahead of schedule. The projects are spread across the state, with one project already breaking ground in South Florida, while projects in West Florida and the Panhandle are also poised to begin work. Orlando Magic CEO reveals next steps for $500 million downtown entertainment district

The Orlando Magic's Sports + Entertainment District is in line for a key city vote this month, according to CEO Alex Martins. Leadership for the $500 million project — set to be built on roughly 8.43 vacant acres to the north of the city of Orlando-owned Kia Center — wants it to go before Orlando City Council later this month, Martins said. CSX closely tied to the Port of Baltimore

Jacksonville-based CSX Corp. can trace its roots in Northeast Florida to railroads opened about 150 years ago, but the history of the company begins with a rail line started in Baltimore nearly two centuries ago. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was chartered in 1827 to serve Baltimore merchants with a 13-mile rail line powered by horses. More from the Jacksonville Daily Record.

Done deal: $3.1 billion acquisition for PGT Innovations closes

The $3.1 billion acquisition of PGT Innovations, a Venice window and door manufacturer founded in the area nearly 45 years ago, has been completed. The new owner is Miter Brands, a Harrisburg-based window and door manufacturer. Shares of PGT are no longer publicly traded. More from the Business Observer.

Ready for Florida’s blueberry season? What to know about the sweet & juicy fruit

The state’s blueberry season runs from late February through early May. The eighth-largest blueberry producer in the country, Florida is the first state each year to go to market with domestic blueberries and produces about 20 million pounds per season on 5,700 acres, according to the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Good news: The institute reports an abundant crop this year.
