› ‘It’s been a journey:’ Finding affordable housing continues to be a challenge in Central Florida
Central Florida’s housing has not kept up with its population boom, and it’s even more dire when it comes to the availability of affordable housing. Metro Orlando has the fourth-highest deficit in the United States with only 18 affordable units available for every 100 extremely low-income renters, according to a new report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition.

› State regulators approve $5 million FPL settlement
State regulators Tuesday approved a settlement that will lead to Florida Power & Light providing a $5 million credit to customers in a case involving what are known as "replacement" power costs because of outages at nuclear plants. The Florida Public Service Commission signed off on the settlement reached by FPL and the state Office of Public Counsel, which represents consumers in utility issues. It stems from unplanned outages from 2020 to 2022 at FPL's Turkey Point and St. Lucie nuclear plants.

› Port Canaveral commissioners give CEO Murray high grades on performance review
Port Canaveral commissioners have again given CEO John Murray strong grades in his latest performance evaluation. Murray's average score was 9.18 this year. That compares with 9.45 last year and 8.94 two years ago. A grade of 9 or 10 signifies "outstanding." A grade of 7 or 8 signifies "exceeds expectations." A grade of 5 or 6 signifies "meets expectations."

› Five Stars for Sarasota hospital on 'America's Greatest Workplaces for Women' list
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System earned a 5-star rating on Newsweek’s 2024 list of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Women.” It is the only hospital in the region to be recognized on the list. The health system has grown dramatically in the last few years and is now Sarasota County’s largest employer with more than 10,000 employees working across its two hospital campuses, a freestanding ER and network of outpatient care centers.
