› Tampa Bay’s new pro women’s soccer team announces season ticket pricing
Tampa Bay’s new first-division professional women’s soccer team on Monday announced season ticket pricing for its upcoming inaugural season. Tampa Bay Sun FC will begin play in August in USL Super League Division I, the highest level in the United States for pro women’s soccer.
› Personnel note: Florida Chamber announces promotions, new hire
The Florida Chamber Foundation announced a wave of promotions and hires as part of its 6-year, $105 million strategic plan to grow Florida into a Top 10 global economy. The staffing changes include the elevation of Kyle Baltuch to Executive Vice President and Rachel Ludwig to Vice President of Talent Development for the Future of Work. The Chamber also announced that Dr. Keith Richard is coming aboard as Vice President of Research, a newly created position.
› Public beach nixed at Weekiwachee Preserve, could open the way for other recreation
Hernando County officials have finally given up on the idea of creating a public beach at the Weekiwachee Preserve. It could open the way for expanded recreational facilities there. The preserve is owned by the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The district has repeatedly vetoed the idea of a public beach at an old mining pit, because of concerns from nearby residents and environmental advocates.
› Construction to Camping World Stadium shouldn’t deter new events
As Orlando celebrates being named the No. 1 sports business destination by Sports Business Journal, one of its older venues is preparing to undergo another facelift. The Orange County Board of Commissioners recently approved spending $400 million from its tourism development tax funds to complete renovations and provide upgrades to Camping World Stadium, which began in 2014.
