› 'No hiccups' in Jaguars negotiations, tentative deal expected in May
The teams negotiating a deal for a renovated EverBank Stadium are now meeting multiple times a week in the hope of presenting City Council a tentative agreement in early May. Mike Weinstein, the city’s lead negotiator, gave council an update Tuesday night, giving members a timeline moving forward and touching on topics ranging from financing to the amount of seasons the team could play away from home during construction.

› Hernando officials approve leasing Weekiwachee Preserve land for park
After years of community debate over creating greater public access to the Weekiwachee Preserve, the Hernando County Commission this week unanimously approved seeking a 20-year, no-cost lease that would allow creation of a 350-acre passive park there. To resolve the matter, the county has scrapped plans to create a beach at this time.

› Central Florida universities become choosier as applications soar
Acceptance rates at the University of Central Florida and Rollins College have dropped considerably in the past 10 years, according to data from the U.S. Department of Education. But while these acceptance rates dropped, the total number of applicants has grown considerably.

› South Florida rental prices are still very high, but there are signs of improvement
As rental prices drop across the United States, South Florida may be late to the trend of renters seeing the same break in costs. According to a recent study conducted by researchers at Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University, South Florida’s rental premium from the end of December to the end of January was higher than any other region analyzed in the state. But not all hope is lost: It’s still lower than it was six months ago, signaling improvement.
