As general counsel since 2016, David Nicholson attends to all legal affairs of TECO Energy, an electric and gas utility with a $1 billion-plus capital budget, 3,400 employees and 1.2 million customers. His purview includes rate and regulatory issues, ethics and compliance, litigation management and employment issues. He represented TECO in its $10 billion sale to Emera in 2016 and worked on development of solar sites and two of the first renewable natural gas facilities in Florida. He is a past president of the Hillsborough County Bar Foundation. While in law school at the University of Florida, he attended the University of Glasgow, Scotland, on a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship.
