Cybersecurity: Level up

Brian Murphy knows the steep climb that startups face. He started ReliaQuest in 2007, nine months before the Great Recession, and didn’t see a dime of outside investment for nearly a decade. In those early days, the Tampa-based company did general IT consulting work, mostly for government agencies. Over time, the company narrowed its focus to safeguarding digital client data and thwarting security threats. It was a good decision. In the years since, the global cybersecurity market has become a $173.5-billion industry and ReliaQuest has become a leader in the sector. More from Florida Trend.

South Florida homes heavily overvalued, report finds, with greater Miami region ranked 11th in nation

While Florida remains highly rated as a landing spot for businesses and people seeking to relocate from elsewhere in the U.S., nine of the top 15 metropolitan areas in a national survey of overvalued home markets are in the Sunshine State, according to researchers at two South Florida universities. While it’s hardly news that steep home prices continue to flummox would-be homebuyers around the state, Florida Atlantic University real estate economist Ken Johnson was not expecting so many cities to be in the grip of over-the-top prices. Dalí Museum won’t get full expansion funding from Pinellas — for now, at least

Pinellas County will help fund a planned expansion of The Dalí Museum, but for now its contribution will be $9 million less than the St. Petersburg institution had requested. County commissioners on Tuesday voted to put $25 million in tourist-tax funding toward the project, which is designed to add 60,000 square feet of space, most of it focused on education and immersive experiences, to the Dalí. The museum had asked for $34 million, half of the expansion’s total price tag. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Independent Gainesville musicians are being given the opportunity to record professional music for free with the help of a local nonprofit. MusicGNV Director Brandon Telg said he and a handful of people helped form the nonprofit MusicGNV in 2020 after realizing there wasn’t a group in the area dedicated to supporting local independent musicians. Out of the Box
Daughter inherited 100,000 antiques in Plant City. ‘Everything must go.’

Maria Turner’s father used to show her the family’s three barns full of antiques and say that it would one day all be hers. She’s still not sure if that was a loving promise or a threat, Turner laughed. But after her father died in 2011 and her mother in 2016, it was indeed all hers. “They loved auctions,” Turner said. “So, we’re having an auction.”
