Marijuana initiative estimated to generate between $200M and $430M

The Florida Financial Impact Estimating Conference released a report on July 13 finding that approval of the marijuana initiative would generate between $195.6 million and $431.3 million in annual state and local revenue if approved by voters. The initiative would legalize marijuana for adults 21 years old and older. Individuals would be allowed to possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana (about 85 grams), with up to 5 grams in the form of concentrate. More from the Center Square.

National Hurricane Center tracking system east of Florida. Residents urged to be prepared

A tropical disturbance east of Florida continues to have a low chance for development but officials are advising residents to take precautions and be prepared. "Some models do track this disturbance toward the east coast of Florida later on this week," according to the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network. More from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

City of Gainesville files lawsuit against state, DeSantis over controversial GRU bill

The city of Gainesville has filed a lawsuit against the state for its takeover of Gainesville Regional Utilities. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed HB-1645, dubbed the ‘GRU Takeover’ bill, on June 8, which takes away the City Commission's century-long control of GRU and gives ultimate authority to an unpaid five-member board appointed by the governor. 110 mph: Brightline to launch high-speed train testing runs in Brevard County Brightline is selling one-way fares for trips starting Sept. 1 at $79 for adults and $39 for children, along with premium tickets for $149. Rick Neale Brightline will start 110-mph high-speed testing in Brevard County along roughly 41 miles of track, sending trains through railroad crossings in Cocoa, Rockledge, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Malabar, Grant-Valkaria and Micco. Testing may start as soon as Friday and continue daily between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. The 110-mph test period may last a week. More from Florida Today.
