› Central Florida business pitches in to help overcrowded animal shelters
With animal shelters overcrowded in many communities, desperate times have led some local business owners to pitching in to help out. Melissa Vendal is the owner of 4 Paws Resort Orlando, a boarding and daycare facility that can handle up to 25 dogs daily. According to Vendal more than 200 dogs were surrendered in Lake County in just one month. She said that many animals in similar circumstances are euthanized when there is no longer space at the shelters and no one to foster.

› Miami-based venture studio Atomic raises $320M for its 4th fund
Miami-based venture studio Atomic announced that it has raised its fourth fund, weighing in at $320 million. This is the firm’s largest fund to date, having last raised $260 million in 2021. This brings Atomic to over $750 million in total assets under management. Atomic reports that it will use these funds to fund new startups the firm co-creates as well as double down on previous investments.

› Apopka Chamber initiates growth among minority business owners
A new initiative to grow and expand minority-owned businesses is underway in Apopka. It's called "Apopkans building Apopka" according to the Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Cate Manley. Manley said the chamber is offering a free program that allows business owners in the trade industry to receive their county and state certification if they're inexperienced when it comes to government contracting.

› Melbourne Margaritaville construction delayed; target opening pushed back to late 2025
Construction on Melbourne's Compass Landing by Margaritaville resort is slowing because of unfavorable economic conditions and site-work delays, and the target completion date has been postponed from fall 2024 to late 2025. Touted by City Hall officials as a major tropical-themed tourist draw and economic catalyst, Margaritaville is slated to feature a seven-story, 146-room hotel facing the Indian River Lagoon.
