› Financial literacy expert at UWF explains how to prepare for economic recession
Whether the country is headed into a recession is still up for debate, but record high inflation and higher housing costs are putting families in a financial bind. WEAR News spoke with the Director of the Maygarden Center for Financial Literacy at the University of West Florida, Dr. Gregory Prescott, about what people can do to prepare for a recession.

› Helping kids, animals and those less fortunate: Brevard nonprofits prep for Giving Tuesday
Nonprofits in Brevard are gearing up for Giving Tuesday, a global day of fundraising for charitable efforts the week after Thanksgiving. While these organizations work to raise funds all throughout the year, they are making an effort to hit a certain goal or do something special on Nov. 29. Brevard Family Partnership is participating in Giving Tuesday for the first time this year, with the goal of raising $10,000 and recruiting 15 volunteers.

› Orion nears farthest distance from Earth on Artemis I mission
NASA officials said the Orion spacecraft is approaching its farthest distance from Earth on Monday, two days after breaking a record set by Apollo 13. On Saturday, Orion, which launched atop the Space Launch System rocket from Kennedy Space Center on Nov. 16, surpassed the previous record of 248,655 miles from the planet, which was the farthest away from Earth astronauts Jim Lovell, John Swigert and Fred Haise traveled during their aborted 1970 moon-landing mission.

› Seeking long holiday, Miami cancels Dec. 8 commission meeting
City of Miami Commissioner Ken Russell offered his early resignation last week after fellow Commissioners Alex Diaz de la Portilla and Joe Carollo moved to cancel the Dec. 8 meeting, which would have been Mr. Russell’s final time sitting on dais before his term ends in 2023. Mr. Russell is currently petitioning his colleagues to hold a December meeting. A majority of members is required to get the meeting back on the schedule.
