› Tamayo to lead Volunteer Florida
Josie Tamayo was appointed Friday by Gov. Ron DeSantis as CEO of Volunteer Florida, replacing Corey Simon, who resigned in June after entering the race for a state Senate seat. Tamayo, who will head an agency that oversees more than $23 million in federal and state money, has served as general counsel for five state agencies, most recently the Agency for Health Care Administration.
› Wells Fargo Center in downtown Tampa sold for $120 million
The latest skyscraper in downtown Tampa to change hands: The Wells Fargo Center. The office tower at 100 S Ashley Drive has been sold to New York real estate investment firm the Feil Organization for $120 million, according to Hillsborough County records. The seller was a group of investors led by Feldman Equities — which is headquartered in the building — and Orlando’s Tower Realty Partners.
› 1889 Church Street railroad station signaled Orlando’s ambition
Empty since the summer of 2020, the 1889 depot has been in the news recently because of a proposal to make changes to it, including added balconies and a glass faux water tower that houses an elevator and stairs. At its Aug. 3 meeting, the city’s Historic Preservation Board asked for revisions, which it will review again in early October.
› Lab testing giant, approaching $500M in revenue, welcomes new CEO
Fort Myers cancer-focused genetic testing services and oncology contract research firm NeoGenomics released its second-quarter earnings report last week, including some statements about the firm’s new CEO, Chris Smith. Smith was named CEO on July 21, effective Monday, Aug. 15. He replaces interim CEO Lynn Tetrault, who will resume her role as independent board chair while assisting in the transition of responsibilities, according to a statement.
