› Alarm company expands in and out of Florida
Port Charlotte-based Security Alarm Corp has announced a joint venture partnership with Harrisonburg, Virginia-based Security Alarm Systems. It’s the firm’s first joint venture. Under the deal, Security Alarm Corp. and Security Alarm Systems launched a dealership business model, where SAS will operate as a locally owned and operated alarm/integration company powered by SAC’s expertise, team and resources in Florida.

› Margaritaville-themed cruise ship to debut out of Palm Beach County in April
Soon you can get wasted away again aboard Margaritaville. And you won’t have to worry about driving home. Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, which operates daily trips to the Bahamas out of the Port of Palm Beach, is partnering with the company founded by Parrothead king Jimmy Buffett and renaming itself Margaritaville at Sea. Its first rebranded ship, formerly called the Grand Classica, will set sail on April 30 as Margaritaville Paradise following a multimillion-dollar refurbishment.

› Shoe Carnival makes first acquisition
More than three decades after Wayne Weaver acquired control of the footwear chain, Shoe Carnival Inc. made its first acquisition. The Evansville, Indiana-based company still controlled by the former Jacksonville Jaguars owner said Dec. 3 it bought Shoe Station Inc., a relatively small chain, for $67 million in cash. Mobile, Alabama-based Shoe Station operates 21 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

› SpaceX’s 40th KSC launch sends NASA probe to measure X-rays
SpaceX is pushing forward with its increased pace of launches in 2021 sending up another Falcon 9 from Kennedy Space Center early Thursday morning. Carrying the smallest payload ever for a Falcon 9, NASA’s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE), the rocket blasted off from Launch Complex 39A at 1 a.m. EST.
