› Florida Black Expo Happening this Weekend
Hundreds of exhibitors, workshops, food and a lot of fun! The Florida Black Expo returns this week, Oct. 21 - 23. The Pollock Group and Thomas Media Group will host the tradition of showcasing minority-owned businesses and helping them build relationships with major companies.

› Lowe’s Kissimmee distribution center to hold hiring event Oct. 20
Home improvement megastore Lowe’s will hold a hiring event at its distribution center in Kissimmee on Wednesday, with the goal of filling 40-50 full-time supply chain associates for night and weekend shifts. Candidates ages 18 and older can meet with hiring managers and may receive on-the-spot job offers. Candidates are not required to bring a resume or have relevant experience, only a valid photo ID. All visitors will be required to wear masks.

› 7 Appointed To Lead Next Term for the Florida Citrus Commission
Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed three new members to the Florida Citrus Commission and reappointed four others. The appointments of John Smoak and Daniel Sutton fill two vacant seats and the appointment of Christopher Groom fills a seat held by a commissioner serving a previously expired term. Commissioners Carlos Martinez, Martin “Marty” McKenna, Steve Johnson, and William “Bill” Poulton were reappointed.

› Need a room? Sarasota may soon allow residents to rent out part of their home for a few days
Sarasota residents may soon be able to rent out a room in their house for a few days under an ordinance the Sarasota City Commission is considering. The commission voted unanimously to direct the city attorney to prepare an ordinance that would allow these rentals – also known as hosted rentals – for periods of a week or less. These rentals are currently only permitted for stays of more than a week.
