› Perkins & Will wins design competition for Riverfront Plaza where Jacksonville Landing once stood
A 151-foot tall piece of gleaming public art helped Perkins & Will seize the top score in a design competition for Riverfront Plaza, a new downtown park that will go where the Jacksonville Landing was demolished on the riverfront. The city's Professional Services Evaluation Committee tallied the scores Thursday of its members and chose Perkins & Will for its vision featuring the soaring piece of curving, tubular art, a large central lawn, playground, splash pad, beer garden and sky garden terrace.

› Jewish film festival, Miami Beach present Summer Movies Under the Stars
The Miami Jewish Film Festival has partnered with the City of Miami Beach to present a summer film series of free outdoor screenings. The Summer Movies Under the Stars film series runs through Aug. 5 on Thursdays and Saturdays at different outdoor venues throughout Miami Beach, and features classics and blockbusters. All film screenings begin at 8:15 p.m.

› Disney plans 50th anniversary artwork for Orlando International Airport
Walt Disney World will serve up glowing and gigantic reminders that it’s celebrating its 50th anniversary at Orlando International Airport. Elaborate, arty decorations will be installed from the trams, through the main terminal, past the luggage carousels and beyond. “To many people, when they come into the airport, it’s really where they feel like the magic of a Walt Disney World vacation will begin, so it’s a really perfect kind of compliment,” said Darlene Papalini, Disney World’s vice president for marketing strategy.

› St. Petersburg’s American Stage theater names new director
After a national search, St. Petersburg theater company American Stage and its board of trustees have announced that Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj is succeeding Stephanie Gularte as producing artistic director. Gularte announced she would be stepping down last year, due to a diagnosis of retinitis pigmentosa, an eye condition that can lead to total blindness.
