› After years and a false start, the makeover of downtown Miami’s main street has begun
A long-stalled $27 million makeover of Flagler Street finally kicked off this week, marking the first days of an estimated 2 1/2 years of construction intended to eventually attract businesses, locals and tourists to the struggling center of downtown Miami. Contractors hired to completely rebuild the historic downtown street from Biscayne Boulevard to the Miami-Dade County Courthouse closed off the two easternmost blocks in recent days.

› Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody Warns Consumers Of Moving-Related Scams
The Office of Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is warning residents of a potential increase in moving scams as home sales skyrocket. Moody is issuing a Consumer Alert to help consumers avoid moving-related scams, as an increase in home sales comes with a demand for movers.

› Disney World’s Star Wars hotel opening delayed; no sign of annual passes returning yet
Disney World’s highly anticipated Star Wars hotel is opening in 2022, not this year. Disney made the announcement on its blog in the spirit of Tuesday’s date, or “May the 4th Be With You,” that’s celebrated among Star Wars fans. The announcement did not include a specific opening date. The hotel’s delay comes after Walt Disney World Resort completely shut down last year during the pandemic.

› Southern Grounds, with new concept Alder & Oak, to open in St. Augustine
Southern Grounds announced plans April 29 for a location in downtown St. Augustine, with work expected to begin in the next two to three months. Coffee-chain owner Mark Janasik said he, along with McGarvey Residential Communities, will renovate the structure at 36 Granada St., the former Corazon Cinema and Cafe. Interior demolition of the building has begun.
