› BlueGrace names chief marketing officer
BlueGrace Logistics, a Riverview-based third-party logistics firm, has hired a former Words At Work marketing executive and partner to be its new chief marketing officer. Mark Derks is expected to lead brand development, marketing strategy and public relations, and help with enabling sales, innovating new products and heightening the customer experience. “The addition of Derks to the executive team deepens our strategy to serve more clients across an innovative and growing portfolio of services,” says BlueGrace CEO Bobby Harris in a statement.

› UNF physics lecturer receives U.S. Patent
Nirmalkumar Patel, a University of North Florida physics associate lecturer, received a U.S. Patent for his sensor invention that detects toxic vapors and odors in hazardous gases, industrial toxic gases and other chemical agents. His patent on “Nanocrystalline Indium Tin Oxide Sensors and Associated Method of Use” solves issues with detection of low-level concentration of toxic gas in real time and operating at room temperature, states a news release from the university.

› Miami Beach mansion in the sky features private rooftop pool for $14.9 million
A two-story Miami Beach penthouse with over 10,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space has hit the market for $14.9 million — and it even has its own private rooftop pool. The unit, PH-3 at 3737 Collins Ave., is on the 19th floor of The Caribbean, a boutique 103-unit building on the ocean in Miami Beach’s Faena District that has a pool, gym, concierge and valet service.

› Deep in the woods, one couple’s distillery is up to something good
Deep in the woods of the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area just north of Weeki Wachee, there are moonshine, rye whiskey and rum stills bubbling away. There are no worries about nosy revenuers, though, as the stills at NJoy Spirits Distillery are legal. Stainless steel and old-school, hand-hammered copper stills have been producing small-batch, handmade spirits at the family operated business for a dozen years. Three years ago, the distillery opened to the public for visits and guided tours and tastings.
