› Multifamily developer buys downtown Sarasota block for $6.8 million
A Greenwich, Conn.-based company redeveloping the Main Plaza in downtown Sarasota into apartments and retail space has acquired a second downtown tract that spans more than a city block, according to county property records. Belpointe REIT Inc. affiliates acquired three buildings and surface parking comprising the 1700 block of Main Street for $6.8 million late last month, records show.

Santa’s sleigh will land at many Central Florida malls this holiday season, but the pandemic has changed how his visits with children will take place both here and across the country. At Mall at Millenia, the holiday set is wiped down between visitors, who are required to wear masks. Santa isn’t wearing a mask over his big, white beard, but he is separated from families on a slightly elevated platform.
› Downtown Jacksonville sees progress on new docks as more are planned
New docks along Jacksonville's Northbank Riverwalk, unusable since 2017's Hurricane Irma, are coming together and an extension of the river taxi docks on the Southbank Riverwalk has been completed. City officials said the longer docks next to the St. Johns Marina at Friendship Fountain have another use for those who have boats and want to visit there.
› Lots of new Chick-fil-A restaurants are opening in South Florida. They’ll hire 700 workers.
Seven new Chick-fil-A restaurants soon will open from West Boca to Miami-Dade, employing 700 people and offering South Floridians plenty of additional sites to get fresh chicken sandwiches. “In total, these restaurants will create more than 700 full- and part-time job opportunities in South Florida,” the company said in a statement. “Chick-fil-A expects to continue this strong growth in the South Florida market for the years to come with a focus on the greater Miami area.”
