› Company performs free disinfection service while nonprofit is closed
While the coronavirus lockdown is preventing many businesses from turning a profit, some are using this time to help others. Stanley Steemer has offered its disinfection and air duct cleaning services for free to the Achievement Centers for Children & Families, a Delray Beach nonprofit organization that helps under-resourced children with educational growth, skill-building and healthy lifestyles.
› 43,000 more Walt Disney World workers will be furloughed April 19
About 43,000 unionized Disney World workers will be furloughed starting April 19, the largest wave of employees in Central Florida to be sent home without pay because of the coronavirus crisis. The Service Trades Council Union, a coalition of six locals, announced the news Saturday on Facebook Live.
› Over half of state’s child care facilities are closed
Florida’s child care industry, consisting mostly of small businesses, was struggling financially long before the COVID-19 pandemic swept the nation. In late March, 16% of providers in Florida had closed down, according to the Florida Department of Education. As of Wednesday, 57% of child care providers were closed, according to the department, many due to low enrollment and therefore low revenue.
