› Multi-million deal would run Virgin Trains into Port of Miami
Less than a week after they OK’d spending up to $76.7 million in taxpayer dollars on a new Virgin Trains station in Aventura, Miami-Dade lawmakers are to look at another multimillion-dollar deal to extend the company’s services to PortMiami. County commissioners are to consider a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Virgin summarizing the terms of an estimated $53.3 million project to design, build and operate a 20,500-square-foot station on at least one acre of seaport land.

It’s been just over a year since Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida Panhandle, devastating the region as a Category 5 storm with 161-mph winds and causing more than $7.2 billion in estimated insured losses, according to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

› Rare American crocodile captured in Englewood
A rare American crocodile was captured and relocated after it was found in front of a home in Englewood on Wednesday, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reports. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Animal Services Officer Scott Meyer safely captured the reptile and transferred it to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which will relocate it.
