What you need to know about Florida today
› Manatee County to create 311 phone service for non-emergencies
This fall, residents of Manatee County need remember just three digits when placing a non-emergency call to report a pothole, ask about bus routes or seek other information about local services: 311. While 911 remains the phone number for emergencies, the county will consolidate its main switchboard 941-748-4501 and its Citizen Action Center 941-742-5800 into a single information service with the easier to remember number of 311.
› Farmers of the Year include Georgia, Florida produce growers
Georgia peach grower Robert Dickey III and Florida vegetable grower Charles Obern have been named 2019 Farmers of the Year by Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo. They and eight other growers of non-produce crops, each representing a southeastern state, will be eligible for the Southeastern Farmer of the Year Award, bestowed during the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moutltrie. Ga., in mid-October.
› Wine.com Launching Spirits In Florida
Wine.com, the nation's leading online wine retailer, is now selling spirits in New York and Florida, and will launch New Jersey and California in August and September, respectively. Already the world's largest wine store with over 15,000 wines, Wine.com now offers a selection of over 2,000 spirits, including rare and collectible items not easily found in stores.
› New Trump foreign investment rules make Orlando developers scramble
Orlando area developers will be scrambling over the next four months to raise capital from international investors before new Trump Administration regulations for the EB-5 visa program take effect Nov. 21, according to a report in GrowthSpotter.
