International Film Competition “48 Hours Film Project” Returns to Tampa

Tampa, FL – Some people call it “extreme filmmaking” and this weekend, the Tampa-St. Petersburg edition of the international 48 Hour Film Project returns to give area filmmakers and wanna-be filmmakers a chance to make their own movie.

The competition begins will team leaders literally drawing genres out of a hat. Once all of the teams have had their film fate determined, they are given a required prop, line of dialogue and character that they must work into their four to seven minute film, and then the work begins! Teams may recruit volunteers for their cast and crew, find locations and assemble their equipment before the competition, but that’s it. Everything else must happen starting at 7pm on Friday night and ending at 7pm Sunday night with a mad dash for some of the teams as the crowd counts down from ten to one.

City Producer for the Tampa 48 Hour Film Project, Wendy Robbins says, “So many people have the dream of “one day” making a film. The 48 Hour Film Projects takes away any excuse someone may have.”

Robbins adds that often people take the films they make during the weekend on to other film festivals or use for their acting or directing demo reels to get other projects. Plus, it’s always an exciting feeling for people to see their work up on the big screen.

Two screenings of all the completed films will be open to the public on August 7 at the AMC West Shore 14. The audience votes for their favorite films from the screening and a panel of film industry judges selects nominees in multiple categories with the winner being announced a mini “Oscar” style event at the end of August. The best film then goes on to the international competition “Filmapalooza” with a chance to be screened at the Cannes International Film Festival.

Registration remains open till Kick Off on Friday night at 7pm or until all the slots are filled. For more information or event details, visit http://www.48hourfilm.com/tampa-fl
