County is Monitoring City of Fort Lauderdale Water Main Break

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - As a result of Wednesday’s water main break in the City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County is announcing the following:

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is at Level 3 (Monitoring and Assessment). The following Emergency Support Functions (ESF) will have a presence at the EOC to provide support services and monitor affects to County facilities:

  • ESF 3 – Public Works & Engineering
  • ESF 5 – Information and Planning
  • ESF 6 – Mass Care, Human Services
  • ESF 7 – Logistics
  • ESF 8 – Health & Medical
  • ESF 14 – Public Communications
  • ESF 18 – Business & Industry

The County is assisting and collaborating with other municipalities to spread the word about the water main break and how residents and business may be affected.

Broward County continues to monitor affected areas and evaluate County facilities in those areas. Closings will be announced as warranted.  

  • As of Noon Thursday the Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale is closed. Please monitor the 17th Judicial Circuit website and Facebook pages for additional information.
  • The Greater Fort Lauderdale /Broward County Convention Center is closed.
  • Some Broward County Libraries are closed, including the Main Library and the African -American Research Library and Cultural Center. Visit Broward.org/Library for the latest information.
  • Several Broward County Parks are closed. Visit Broward.org/Parks for more information.

Other closings will be announced as warranted.

  • The water main break is not affecting Broward’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport which gets its water from the City of Hollywood.
  • Port Everglades has notified its customers of the water main break; portable bathrooms are being placed throughout the Port;  Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue has activated its emergency fire suppression plan, which uses ocean water as the main water source.
  • The Governmental Center in downtown Fort Lauderdale is closed.    

As the situation evolves over the next few days,  cruise ship passengers are encouraged to check with their cruise line for more information.

Residents and businesses are being urged to monitor the County’s news resources for any additional impact to County services or facilities:
