› HUD cancels contract with Jacksonville apartment complex after inspections reveal bad living conditions
After inspections revealed poor living conditions, the federal government is moving 205 residents out of Roosevelt Garden Apartments, a privately owned and federally subsidized complex near UF Health hospital. Twice last year, the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development gave the failing scores on inspections, one in March and one in October, with scores of 56 and 58 out of 100.
› A lawsuit could doom one of the few go-kart tracks in Tampa Bay
One of the last few go-kart tracks in the Tampa Bay area is in danger of going out of business following a lawsuit filed in Pinellas County Court. The owners of Pro-Karting Experience are being sued by their landlord for being almost $1 million behind on rent, in addition to other charges of neglect, according to the lawsuit.
› Florida lawmakers back homeowner front-yard vegetable gardens
The Florida House on Wednesday gave final approval to a measure that would prevent local governments from regulating homeowners’ vegetable gardens even in their front yards. The 93-16 vote will send the bill (SB 82) to Gov. Ron DeSantis.
