A New Home: Floating Bungalows builds houses for unconventional dreamers

In 2016, Cynthia and Warren Billings started building a floating bungalow to live in. They set up a Facebook page to let friends follow their progress and wound up with nearly 50,000 views.

That led the Sanford couple to launch Floating Bungalows in hopes of capturing a piece of the tiny homes movement. The company began slowly, with one employee working half time, a single bungalow and sales of just over $200,000. It now employs three full-time workers, has begun work on its fifth bungalow and has topped $500,000 in sales.

The company, which was featured on HGTV’s “Tiny House Hunters,” has moved into a 6,000-sq.-ft. facility and says it is positioned to build between six and eight floating bungalows a year.
