Florida’s tax revenues boom as budget runs $365 million ahead of projections
With an unexpected surge in sales-tax and corporate income-tax collections, analysts on Tuesday projected a significant increase in state revenue over two years. If the revenue projections hold, it will ease the financial pressure on incoming Gov. Ron DeSantis, as he prepares his first budget recommendation, and on the Legislature, which must pass a 2019-2020 state budget when it meets in the spring. The Church of Scientology is bankrolling courses at Florida prisons
Officials in at least one Florida Department of Corrections facility have greenlit a “betterment program” backed by the Church of Scientology. A graduation for the course is set to take place this week. The program, called Criminon, means “without crime,” and relies on the teachings of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Juicy present for citrus growers: Gift baskets of Florida oranges rebound after sour year
It’s estimated that 740,000 boxes of Florida citrus — including oranges, grapefruit and specialty fruit — will be used as gift fruit in 2018-19, a 22 percent increase from last season, according to the state Department of Citrus. More from the Orlando Sentinel.

Naples Airport Authority has introduced new branding that includes a new family of logos and website to complement the Naples Municipal Airport’s name change to Naples Airport. “We are excited to introduce a new, refreshed brand that captures the essence of Southwest Florida,” said Chris Rozansky, Naples Airport Authority executive director. Tampa Bay Times headquarters sold for around $40 million
The downtown St. Petersburg headquarters of the Tampa Bay Times has been sold for approximately $40 million to Lincoln Property Co. Tampa-based Convergent Capital Partners and Denholtz Associates bought the property at 490 First Avenue S from the Times two years ago for $19 million and spent close to $13 million on renovations.
