› Sarasota County takes steps to create more affordable housing
In an effort to create more affordable housing, the Sarasota County Commission this week rubber-stamped recommendations from a local board whose mission is to examine policy and procedures to further the commission’s goal of building more workforce housing.

› Christmas tree sales are off to a strong start in Tampa Bay, shortage or not
Last year, rumblings about a tree shortage juiced early-season sales. Blame the Great Recession a decade ago, when sales slowed so much that growers responded by planting fewer saplings. The trees take about seven to 10 years to reach the right size, so fears arose that there wouldn’t be enough to go around last year, and potentially this year.

› Brightline making plans to stop at Walt Disney World
Imagine zipping from South Florida to Walt Disney World at the speed of Space Mountain... or faster. That day may come within the next three years as Brightline is reportedly making plans to have its high-speed train system stop at or near the resort.

› Parents sue over Florida law that arms school staff
Parents of elementary school students in Jacksonville, Fla., are suing the county school board over a new policy that allows certain school employees to carry concealed guns.
