› North Port commissioners approve 2018-19 budget
North Port city commissioners unanimously approved a $161.5 million general fund budget, as well as district budgets for solid waste, road and drainage and fire and rescue at their Sept. 20 meeting. Along with the budget, commissioners approved a property tax rate of 3.407 mills, or slightly less than $3.41 for every $1,000 of taxable value.

› Bonita Springs bank loves deal to be tennis event's title sponsor
FineMark National Bank & Trust has entered into a title sponsor agreement with Bonita Bay Club for its $100,000 United States Tennis Association Women’s Professional Circuit tennis tournament. The tournament is scheduled for May 6-12, 2019.

› UF Industrial Hemp Program Promotes Industrial Partnerships to Grow
The University of Florida’s pilot research program to explore the potential to grow industrial hemp across the state is advancing, with the engagement of an inaugural private partner. The initiative was supported and encouraged by the state but was not appropriated any funding. To move forward, the project needs sponsorships from private industry.

› Miami named worst city for renters in the U.S. for the second year in a row
For the second year in a row, South Florida has been named the worst metro area in the U.S. for renters. A new study by the website Apartment List shows that 62.7 percent of renter households in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach in 2017 were cost-burdened.
