ACLU investing millions of dollars in Florida to restore ex-felons’ voting rights

The American Civil Liberties Union, which has stepped up its political engagement as its Trump-era membership has swelled, is getting behind a campaign to end Florida’s felon disenfranchisement law by changing the state Constitution. “It’s going to be at least [a] $5 million commitment, maybe more,” said Faiz Shakir, the ACLU’s national political director, in an interview. “We’ll build through the end of the year, and to get the signatures we need to get on the ballot, we’re looking at a million.” More from the Washington Post.

Orlando International Airport installing CPR training kiosk

Orlando International Airport (MCO) will soon be offering CPR training to waiting travelers via an interactive kiosk from the American Heart Association. MCO will be among only a handful of airports in the nation with the kiosks. The American Heart Association says:

Each year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside the hospital, and about 20 percent occur in public places such as airports. Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest when it occurs in public, and CPR can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival. The interactive kiosks are designed to train large numbers of people on this simple, lifesaving technique. Read more at the news release.
