State of emergency declared as Tropical Storm Emily comes ashore

This morning, Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued Executive Order 17-204 declaring a state of emergency in 31 counties due to Tropical Storm Emily.

A state of emergency gives the state the flexibility to work with local governments to ensure they have all the resources they may need. Within minutes of making that declaration, Tropical Storm Emily came ashore at Anna Maria Island, just west of Bradenton, Florida. At 10:45 am, maximum sustained winds were 45 MPH. See Gov. Scott's declaration here, and read emergency updates here. Follow the track of TS Emily at the National Hurricane Center or at Weather.com.
