GDP jumps across the nation
South Florida's economy grew 2.4 percent in 2013, outpacing the 1.7 percent national average for metro growth, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Tuesday. The number of people boarding cruise ships within the nation dropped last year for the first time since the recession, but passenger counts increased globally and in Florida, according to a new report from the Cruise Lines International Association. More at the South Florida Business Journal.
South Florida small-business owners plan to hire
Nearly 70 percent of small-business owners in South Florida plan to hire in the next six months, according to a survey by the worldwide nonprofit Entrepreneurs' Organization. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Captain Citrus, face of Florida OJ, gets a makeover
The Florida Department of Citrus revealed its made-over mascot Tuesday at a comic book store. The agency paid $1 million to Marvel Comics to create the new character in hopes of bolstering orange juice's reputation as a healthy and wholesome drink. More at the AP.
