Miami’s history as a hotbed of fraud and corruption is an obstacle to development as a tech hub that can be overcome, panelists at a recent event said.

“We are still young as a tech development center,” said Carlos Garcia, CEO of Miami-based NoBox advertising and marketing firm.

“The idea that someone has to fail for someone else to succeed – that must change. That is not the case in Silicon Valley and other places known for tech innovation.”

Garcia was a panelist at eMerge Americas breakfast event on Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency in Coral Gables.
