Going for the Green

Bob Snell | 3/1/2006

The PGA Tour announced that its signature event, The Players Championship, will be played in early May beginning next year. The TPC had been played in late March at the Sawgrass stadium course. The move coincides with a new TV contract with CBS and NBC. Tournament President Brian Goin says the shift to May will offer more afternoon sunlight and, hopefully, drier conditions. The move also will help position the TPC as the fifth "major," joining The Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship.
