Sports and recreation will contribute $32 billion to the state's economy this year, according to the "Economic Impact of Sports and Recreation Activities in Florida Survey," prepared by the Washington Economics Group and commissioned by the Florida Sports Foundation. Sports and recreation account for 5% of the state's 9.2 million jobs, according to the report.
MINORITY BUSINESSES
NO. 3 --
Florida ranks third nationally in the number of businesses owned by African-Americans, with 102,079, according to the Census Bureau. New York has the highest number, with 129,324, followed by California, 112,873. The Florida companies generate $5.7 billion in revenue. Among the top 10 counties for black-owned businesses in the U.S., Miami-Dade is No. 5, with 29,359. Broward is ninth with 22,065.
HIGH-TECH WORKFORCE

With 265,484 high-tech workers in 2004, Florida ranks fourth in high-tech employment nationally, according to the American Electronics Association Cyberstates 2006 report. Florida jumped from 40th to second in high-tech employment growth from 2003, adding 6,683 jobs. The state also led in new high-tech establishments from 2003 to 2004, adding 1,198.
