Created in 1983, Florida’s Legal Board Certification Program offers 22 state-approved specialties, the most in the nation. Some facts:

As of October, 4,259 Florida lawyers were board certified. More than 84,000 lawyers are members of the Florida Bar.
Only certified attorneys are allowed to identify or advertise themselves as specialists or experts.
The program’s newest specialties are intellectual property law and state and federal government administrative practice.
The Florida Bar has applied to the Florida Supreme Court for two new specialties to be approved this year: Adoption law and education law.
