› Miami-Dade shatters all historic jobs records
Miami-Dade’s ultra-tight employment market tightened even further in November as the county smashed employment records on three fronts. The county registered its lowest unemployment rate ever with the most people ever working in Miami-Dade despite a spurt in the civilian labor force to a record total.
› Cocoa considering new developments for old City Hall sites; no project selected yet
At least one developer is eying the location of the former city hall in Cocoa Village in hopes of building a mixed-use development that would include apartments and retail. The future of the site has been an open question for the city since the current city hall was built in 2008. Developers will still need to jump through many hoops before being selected by the city.
› Professionals forming local chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women Network
Local professionals have taken steps to start a Sarasota-Manatee chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network, a leading global business network in commercial real estate. The local chapter was formed by a group of Sarasota businesswomen, including three members of Ian Black Real Estate and representatives from Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, Gulfside Bank and others.
› Tampa Bay entrepreneur left concrete mark on famed Florida projects
James Patrick Judge Sr. learned the concrete finishing trade in the late 1960s while working as a bag boy at a Sarasota Winn-Dixie store. He saved up $700, bought a pickup truck and tools and started his own firm. Judge Construction grew to become one of the largest concrete pumping operations in the southeastern United States. Its projects included some of Tampa Bay’s and Florida’s best known landmarks, including Walt Disney World, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Raymond James Stadium and Tampa International Airport, according to son, James Judge Jr.
