› Lettuce industry Florida expands into new production systems
Up to 73% of US lettuce comes from California, being distributed nationwide through extensive retail chains. Lettuce grown in Florida accounts for 3% of the national total and has a unique market window during the winter months. Traditionally, Florida lettuce has been grown between October and April in the rich muck soils of the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA), just south of Lake Okeechobee.

After more than two years of negotiations, the city of Tampa and its largest private parking lot company have agreed to a proposed land swap that would allow for the restoration of the Jackson House, the city’s last segregation-era Black boarding home.
› Mayor Deegan appoints Michael Fackler as Jacksonville’s next general counsel
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan appointed Michael Fackler to become the city’s next general counsel. A commercial litigator, Fackler has practiced law for nearly 20 years and is a partner at the Milam Howard Nicandri & Gillam law firm. “Michael is well respected in the legal profession and community. He brings to the table nearly two decades of legal experience, unimpeachable character and bipartisan support,” Deegan said.
› Miami airport among best largest North American airports, JD Power survey says
Miami International Airport came in fourth place among the largest North American airports in pleasing passengers, according to J.D. Power’s 2023 airport customer satisfaction survey. Miami tied for the fourth spot among 21 airports with Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, improving from No. 9 in last year’s rankings even though Miami airport is handling heavier passenger traffic this year.
